"Alon's magic: The moon. Alon IS de maan. Zonder Alon gaat iedereen dood. Einde." - Jules 07-07-2022

The cold apparently did bother him. Enough for him to want to control it. The power to freeze water or thaw ice as he wanted. However, he quickly discovered that the thawing took way longer than the freezing. And of course, he wanted to be of use to his parents so the freezing is what he focussed on. He can still make ice thaw but it takes rather long. Freezing, however, can happen within the blink of an eye. If the water is cold enough that is. It does take a while to get boiling water to freeze obviously.

The easiest way for him to freeze is through direct tough. Which causes his hands to be somewhat on the cold side more often than not. Anything that conducts well, such as metal, can be used as a medium between his skin and the water. Freezing from a small distance (up to 5 meters) is possible as well, but the time it takes increases exponentially, the further the distance. The shape of the ice is something he has only a little control of, he can make it smooth or rough, thicker or thinner, but that's all there is to it.

Plain water isn't the only thing that he can freeze. Any fluid can be frozen, however, they do take longer than water and require direct touch or touch through conduction. Causing slight frostbite can happen within a single touch but completely freezing an adult would take over five minutes of continuous touch. Which is pretty much impossible unless the person is tied up or knocked out.

The drawbacks are simple. Creating cold causes cold. Using too much of his powers can give him frostbite too. Especially if it's used through the same part of the skin. Light frostbite will heal over time, however, heavy frostbite will not and leaves scars. Alon is very much aware of that and cautious to make sure it doesn't occur. Using metal as a conductor too often will make it brittle due to the rapid cooling down and warming up.
History
Being born as the oldest son and thus their to a prestigious family means only one thing for a child. Lessons, lessons, and even more lessons. Alon was a studious child so didn't mind all the learning. But his family wasn't just prestigious. His father was the head of the Lemurian Guard. The closest thing Lemuria has to an army. However, most of the time they function as regular police guards. This meant that the young boy also had to learn how to fight. He wasn't strong enough to wield a claymore or a sword. His accuracy with the bow was just plain terrible, so he learned how to wield polearms.

He grew up proud, yet quite shy. He clearly lacked social skills while his parents nearly radiated them. So he went along on all kinds of trips in order to learn how to behave. Which was great for acting that way, but acting is exhausting. Each trip wrecked him a bit less but he always strongly preferred his lessons in the library. Even the fighting lessons were better than the trips. The only thing that was worse than those social trips, were the battles. Usually, it were only small skirmishes but blood he saw. Blood he was forced to draw. And he loathed it with every fiber of his being. But it was all for the best, all to protect Lemuria.

And he grew used to the lifestyle. Him doing this meant that his younger siblings were taken to these battles less often. It also sometimes gave him chances to come up with peaceful solutions. If his parents let him. He trusted his parents. They were the well-renowned Haiyang family that had protected Lemuria for generations. Why wouldn't they be to trust? That was what he thought until he made a friend in one of the disputes. A boy his own age, who he found to be surprisingly cute. It was one of the disputes he settled peacefully. Until they discovered the other party consisted partially of merfolk. Each and every one of them was murdered, including his friend. Why? They resolved it peacefully, there was no need for bloodshed. But his parents wanted the tails to add to their collection. This was when his doubt started.

He started studying but little information was to be found. And finding live merfolk was a bit.. hard. Hunting merfolk was condoned so it was risky for them to be out and about. He never saw one again. Living ones that was. Once every while a new tail was added to his parents' collection. A room he could not enter without nausea. And so a few years passed. The monarchy was abolished and the council was created. His father obviously took one of the seats. He had enough influence to do so, as he was the leader of the only fighting power in the entirety of Lemuria.

Alon was often forced to accompany his father to the council. He was, after all, the heir to the family and thus to the council seat as well. Yet, only a year after the council was formed, a disaster occurred. Or well, disaster is one thing you could call it. To him, it was a lucky moment in a way. Losing his parents was hard but by taking his father's place in the council, he could make an actual change. Overcome with grief, confusion, and a slight fear of changing his parents' legacy, he remained mostly silent for almost a year. But now. Now is the time for change and he learned enough to help lead it.
Trivia

  • He is nearsighted but this wasn't discovered until a later age, making him a decent warrior even without glasses.
  • He has a strong desire to protect merfolk but doesn't know what to do with the tails his parents left him.
  • If he encounters something he doesn't know anything about; he has a strong desire to learn at least the basics.
