Franciscus Ylindar

Details

Franciscus is a very handsome looking man in his late twenties, with dark brown eyes and short curly dark brown hair. He has a scar on the side of his face that is almost impossible to miss, but has been healed for some time. There is a little story behind it as well, one he only likes to tell when he’s very drunk, because it reminds him of his dead wife.

The man has a very strong build, this due to the fact that he has always worked hard labor. His skin is often a bit warmer than most people in his region, because he can usually be found working outside. And on his face, he usually wears a short stubble beard.

Demeanor

Back in the day, before the man lost his wife, he always had a charming attitude and a friendly energy surrounding him. He was always smiling, doing the best he could for the people he cared about. Having fun without anything to hold him back. It often didn’t look like anything could bother him at all. But now, however, everything is different. Most of the time he has a sad look on his face, and he can’t even remember the last day he had been completely sober. He is clearly a wreck, drowning in his own sorrows. Some days, he can even be spotted talking to his dead wife.. Which can look a little strange to some people who might find him like this.

Clothes

The man often wears pretty decent clothes, but he can also be seen wearing older/more comfortable clothes when he’s out working in the field, or with his horses. On warmer days, he often ditches his shirt when he’s working. On his head, he often wears tricorn hats that used to belong to his father. Giving him somewhat the look of a sailor, even if he isn’t one.

Courageous/Ballsy
Franciscus is sometimes a bit too brave for his own good, often putting himself in harm's way without thinking too much about it. In the past he had his fair share of involvement in tavern brawls where he was trying to stand up for his friends, or the people he generally cares about. He is even able to stand up and protect a stranger if he believes it to be just, all because he feels a grand urge to do the right thing.

Impulsive/Impatient
The man doesn’t like to wait for things to happen and he has a hard time sitting still, or at least, usually. He can be rather impulsive as well, not always thinking before he acts when something is put in front of him. If given some more time, he is often better at responding more correctly and properly. The only time when he’s able to truly calm down is when he works with his horses, or when he found himself in the arms of his wife.

Hot-headed/Persistent
Due to this, the man can also be a bit hot-headed. His buttons are easily pushed, and he is quick to use his fists if angered. Yet, the reason for using his fists is usually when he feels like injustice is being done to someone. And when he finds any type of injustice being done, he can be very persistent in wanting to fight that injustice. His intentions are almost always good, but his actions don’t always add up to that. This doesn’t mean, however, that he is not entirely able to control himself, but he does have a harder time with it.

Compassionate/Selfless
In his heart, Franciscus always tries to do good, and he feels a lot of compassion for the poorer people. Mostly because they often have to fight harder for their rights/lives. He always wants to help them and he often feels some anger towards people who imagine themselves to be superior to those people. In helping other people Franciscus can often be quite selfless, sometimes even giving people more than he can afford to lose himself.

Unforgiving/Principled
If someone does him wrong, or betrays him, he can be rather unforgiving. It’s not to say that it is impossible to get his forgiveness, but it would take a lot of time and effort to make him change his mind. It’s also very easy to break his trust, mainly because he is very principled about a lot of things that seem right to him.

Childhood

The death of Franciscus’s parents was very much an accident, something that could not have been prevented as they both died on a ship during a storm out at sea. Even though their bodies were never found, their ship eventually washed ashore, completely broken, and with no one on board. No one could have survived.

Franciscus had a difficult childhood, mostly because his parents died when he was extremely young. He had little to no memories with them and grew up mostly with cousins, switching places between his uncles and aunts a lot. They all ended up taking care of him, sometimes taking turns with a bunch of servants always at his side. But he always missed out on the true love his actual parents would have given him.

This often left him feeling very alone, even if he was very much loved by most of his family members. He often sought out many ways to escape his family and head out into the city, causing all kinds of mischief later on in life.

Teens

During his teens Franciscus started to grow more rebellious, much to the dislike of his family members who felt like they were losing their grip on him. Mainly because they were all not his actual parents, they had a hard time controlling him, and oftentimes, they were too busy paying attention to their own children as well. So, the young boy found out he could get away with stuff, and more often than not, he didn’t even return to the castle anymore. Staying in the city with his friends, having fun with them.

When he eventually got to his late teens, he began to gain more attention from the ladies within the city, and due to him being a charming young man, he was often able to keep their interest with ease. He was rather good looking, and many girls began to chase him for that reason alone. Or maybe together with the fact that he often stood up for his friends, showing a lot of loyalty and heart. His good name was just another bonus. And yet, Franciscus was never quick to return their affections, always keeping most of them guessing. Sometimes he didn’t even seem interested in them at all.

There was once one woman who could get rather close to him, but she eventually married another man because her parents had arranged it. Something he actually struggled with as well, because he felt like he could have loved her. Like he could have been very close to her.

But that all changed when he eventually met his wife, Demelza, a fierce young woman with beautiful red hair who picked fights with anyone who dared to mistreat her dog. She was from a very poor family who struggled each and every day to feed themselves and survive, but she was also very much mistreated by her father and brothers. Franciscus saved her one day from a fight with a bunch of men, and afterwards he decided he wanted to help her.

Adulthood

Very slowly he began to grow feelings for Demelza, and everytime he gave her better clothes, he began to see how beautiful she actually was. He helped her to get into work at the castle first. This was before he eventually bought himself and her a little farm, right outside on the land surrounding Ishgard, to give her a better place to stay. To give himself something to do as well since he was getting bored.

People already began to grow suspicious of him and Demelza living their life inside the little farm right outside the city, and it didn’t take long before Franciscus took matters into his own hands. Because he had a lot of friends, he had been able to arrange himself a priest who was willing to wed him to his wife, all without the knowing of his family. He eventually did tell them, but by that time, it had already happened and there was nothing to be done. It was a disgrace, yes, but he didn’t care. He loved his wife, and very quickly, she had gotten pregnant with his first child.

Things went very well for him, he was making a business of growing crops, training horses and breeding them occasionally. His wife and him were taking care of their little daughter who had brightened up their lives. As time went on, he even grew more in love with his wife, and she became everything to him, together with little Juliet. A second child eventually came into their lives, Felicia, however, it didn’t take her too long to leave them.. There was a severe flu, one that almost took his wife as well, but had been too severe for their youngest girl. This broke the both of them, and they struggled to get their lives back together.

His wife eventually seemed to get better, but she never fully recovered, and after some time, she got worse again. Franciscus by this time had fully isolated himself from everyone, staying at his wife’s bedside to support her, and pray for her to get better. But she never did.. His kitchen maid had been able to take care of his other daughter during this time because Franciscus was grieving too much over his passed away wife and child. He still hasn’t recovered, and he became a regular drunk. Truth be told, he can’t remember the last time he had been sober.
