Yvaine Celaenor

In the realm of moon elves, Yvaine has always been the odd one out, with her curly, auburn hair and relatively short height. The only features that reveal her elven heritage are her pointy ears and fair skin. Yvaine has never been bothered about her unusual appearance, and it is said that the Destrier family is known for being descendants of both moon elves and wood elves.
She almost exclusively wears the colours of the Celaenor family: loose-fit, high-collared dresses in dark green and gold, made from lavish fabrics. Other shades present in her wardrobe are black and dark blue - she has an aversion for bright colours, believing they don't suit her and attract way too much attention.

Ever since the untimely death of her husband Oberon, Yvaine has become self-conscious and shy - one could even say she became neurotic. She doesn't spend a lot of time outside of Silvercrest, and prefers the company of a few close friends in the safety of her home instead of going to large parties or festivities. She has a hard time verbalising her own emotions and will often try to please the majority, trying to solve problems without a (verbal) fight. Her nervosity is especially fixated on her daughter Morgana, who she wants to protect at all costs. Ever since Morgana and herself became the last living heirs of both the Celaenor and Destrier families, Yvaine has been overprotective of her only child, scared to lose her but knowing all too well that her little girl has already grown into a young woman who doesn't need her mother by her side at all times.

Yvaine, like all moon elves, is proficient in moon magic. Her expertise is illusion magic, specialising in afterimage manipulation. This means she can create and manipulate illusions or afterimages of herself, making it hard to strike the 'real' her in a combat or fight (it's comparable to the Double Team move in Pokémon x). She can cast up to five mirror images; more will cause Yvaine to become exhausted or even lose her consciousness. These illusions are static and immovable, so when Yvaine moves, it's easy to distinguish the real her. When a foe manages to hit an afterimage, all the illusions will vanish in thin air. Yvaine mostly used her magic in childhood to joke around with her sister and family and hesitates to use her magic in public.  

Yvaine was born as the first child of Elyan and Viviane Destrier. Her life was as normal as could be for a high-born child of an influential family - she got her education and as she came of age, she was expected to marry a man worthy of her status.
Her chosen match was Oberon Celaenor, the eldest son of the Celaenor family and eight years older than Yvaine. A family with a reputation: the Celaenors had been stewards of the ruling Aerendyl family for generations, and her husband was appointed by Andreas Aerendyl himself. Although Oberon was a handsome man, tall, athletic and blessed with dark silver hair, Yvaine wasn't sure if she was ever able to truly love him.

Their marriage meant Yvaine and Oberon became regular guests at the Aerendyl castle, and Yvaine got to know almost every member of the - rather large - family. The young moon elf was especially close to Ceres, a rather rebellious Aerendyl who seemed to live by her own rules.

As the years passed, Oberon and Yvaine were blessed with one daughter. They named her Morgana, after her husband's mother.
But as their daughter grew up, it seemed like a black streak began to run through both the Celaenor and the Destrier families. A mysterious illness took Yvaine's younger sister away, and her father and mother both passed not too long after that. After both her father-in-law and her mother-in-law passed away of old age, there were just three Celaenors left: Oberon, Morgana and herself. The untimely death of her husband, when her daughter was just a teenager, was especially hard on Yvaine. It was a freak accident on the back of his horse, a wrong fall was all it took to rip away another family member from her. It meant she now had to raise her daughter herself. The moon elf became more protective of the young Morgana, anxious to lose her as well. Shortly after her husband's funeral, she came across Ceres Aerendyl for the first time since she was a teenager. Their meeting awakened something in Yvaine, a feeling she hadn't felt since she was young - eager to keep contact, the two moon elves now see each other regularly; which in theory means whenever Ceres is in Lemuria.
Yvaine became numb after her turbulent family life and marriage, but somehow manages to keep herself together. With her daughter, her pride and joy, by her side, she tries to live a low-profile life in the Celaenor estate, that became hers after Oberon's passing.

☾ Often goes by her nickname Maëlle (or any variation of her second name) when she doesn't want to attract too much attention to herself. Only Ceres knows this and uses the nickname regularly.

☾ Sees the Aerendyls as her other family since she spends so much time with them.
☾ Inherited the Celaenor family’s ancestral longsword after her husband’s death.
