Kaz Aetos

Details

Despite walking with a cane, Kaz has an excellent posture. He walks around proudly, not minding his disabillity at all. His back his straight and more often than not, his chin is held up high. He is tall, but his build is average and he can easliy disappear in crowds if he needs to.

He has thick black hair that is usually on the shorter side and combed backwards. His eyes are blue and they stand out against his pale complection. He is easily identifiable by his limping. Despite his rank in society, Kaz still dresses sharply. He makes sure that he always looks presentable, almost like a business man of sorts.

Kaz is littered with tattoos all over his body. He has a few rings in his ear and sometimes sports a nosering. His cane is made of dark wood, most likely mahogany, and has a silvered metal skull of a crow as a handle. He also uses his cane as a weapon and the handle can be detached to show a dagger attached and sheathed in the wood of the lower part of the cane.

Kaz is one that got hardened by life from an early age. He is a pessimist, seeing the bad side of things instead of the good ones. Don't try to cheer him up, because he'll only get more annoyed. He usually expresses himself with cynic remarks, grunts and annoyed looks. He is very much emotionally unvailable, bottling up everything until he can't and a violent outburts happens. He usually handles situations coldly and and swiftly, so he doesn't need to face other people's emotions. He knows he can't handle them well and that sometimes frustrates him.

He is proud and rather does not admit he is wrong, rather finding a way to work around the error and fixing it before anyone notices. Or he simply tells them it is all part of the plan. The cogs in his head are always running and he barely rests because of it. While he doesn't walk around with the feeling that the everyone is after him all the time, Kaz does believe the whole word is against him. Because of this, he rather keeps his distance. Although, the man does have a soft spot for people in need, believing that everyone is equal and thus everyone should have the same chances at life.

It is believed by people close to Kaz that he possesses no magic at all. Though he comes from a family of druids, it seems he has not inherited a single drop of their magic. The truth is that Kaz never felt comfortable to show his magic around his family, in fear of it being exploited. In fact, Kaz can communicate with animals perfectly fine. Though he doesn't use it often, it isn't hard for him to understand what the animals around him want or need.

Because of his magic, Kaz always has a crow with him. Kruge acts as a companion and a spy and the two have a deep bond of understanding. Kaz cares for Kruge and in return gets the information he needs. Though the crow also comes back with shiny things. Kaz doesn't really care about that, letting the bird build his own nest of riches while Kaz tries to do the same in the real world.

Kaz was never really meant to be. Four years after Octavian was born, Kaz came into the world. From the moment he could understand, Kaz knew he could never live up to the expectations of his family, simply because they hadn't expected him to be there in the first place. Nevertheless, he tried to be the perfect son. Where his brother went wild and discovered the world, Kaz stayed inside. He listened to every command, pretended to be happy and that this was the life that he wanted. In truth, he hated every moment he was in the same room with his parents.

It only got worse when it was apparent that he didn't have a single ounce of druidic magic in his blood. No matter what they tried, not a single thing seemed to happen when he practiced. And then the rumour started. Could it be possible that Kaz was a bastard? Could he simply not be part of the family after all?

The rumours haunted him, made him shy even further from the world. He shielded his own emotions, tucking them deep inside to not further disappoint his family than he already was. And in the process he envied how his brother, despite the loveless character of their parents, seemed to be alright.

It was when Octavian left when things got worse. At this point his family barely recognised his presence in the house. At first it hurt him, but he quickly found out that it also didn't matter then if he simply just didn't turn up again. He started to discover the outside world, the highs and lows, the opportunities and the dangers. Kaz learned of the thiefs running about and every now and then liked to follow them.

At home he practiced on the locks, sometimes stealing silverwear from the kitchen, just to see how long it would be until they noticed. He got scolded for it, but it seemed that his parents barely had the energy to give him an actual punishment. Not that Kaz minded.

When Octavian returned and then left again, Kaz went with him. One last attempt of his family to make something from the magicless human. A training to become a guard, maybe even royal guard, and make them proud. Kaz took it seriously, but the dream was only short lived. In his 20th living year, Kaz got into an accident. During horse training he fell and a different horse trampled him. He survived, but his leg was barely salvageable.

When healed, it was clear that he would never be able to walk properly again. Bye royal guard dream. Bye dream of ever making his parents proud. It got even worse from there, with them kicking him out as soon has he was back to somewhat good health again. From that day on, there had never existed a Caspian Aetos in that household.

At first, Kaz resented them. He wanted nothing but revenge. But as the months passed, his anger turned more towards the world. He had constantly been dealt the worse cards, not once had he thrived. That needed to change. Kaz delved deeper into the criminal world and slowly started to work his way up. From rookie, slowly to gang leader until he eventually managed to get his own ring started. No one needed to live like he had. And the ones that made others suffer, needed to be punished.

Through his hard work and resentment towards the world, The Syndicate was born. An organised crime ring with Kaz in the lead, slowly making its way through Odiria, to eventually existing in all parts of the world.
