Ties of Blood

• Lucian was born within an eastern continent, where his father served as a royal guard. His mother died from an unknown illness when he was eight years old. Before then Lucian was quite the cheerful child, but he became more timid after his mother's passing
  
  
• As long as he remembers his aspiration was to follow in his fathers footsteps and become a royal guard himself one day. This goal was highly encouraged by his father, who made sure that he joined the army as soon as he was old enough. He needed to become a soldier first before he could be granted the position to protect such an important family.
  
  
• His time spent within the army was tough, but Lucian managed to make some friends during his time as trainee. Seeing his friends almost every single day forged a strong bond between them, especially between him and Akeno, his best and closest friend. The two of them were almost inseparable. Everywhere one went, the other followed. Or so they thought.
  
  
• His trainee years had come to an end when Lucian, along with a few of his friends was sent out to the battlefield. They could no longer fool around anymore. The realization of them being actual solders now barely settled in, but battles did not wait for soldiers to be ready for them. They had grown into fine soldiers and were given the chance to prove themselves and hone their skills on the battlefield.
  
  
• The battle itself made quite an impression on him. While he did know what to expect, he didn't expect to feel what he felt right there. His determination to reach his goal kept him going, fighting off the more experienced enemy soldiers as he feared for the lives of him and his companions. Was he supposed to feel like this? Did all soldiers feel like this? He couldn't properly answer those questions in his mind, as he witnessed something that made his heart drop and squeezed all the air out of his lungs. The image of his closest friend, his brother being impaled by one of the enemy soldier's swords. He still doesn't remember what happened after that moment, but that specific image he would never be able to forget.
  
  
• His memories of the time between that certain battle and leaving Lavarr have been a haze. He remembers being tormented by nightmares almost every single night, thus waking up his fellow soldiers. He remembers the sudden, overwhelming anxiety that drove him into panic attacks during training, sometimes even hurting his fellow soldiers within his unconscious state of fear. Eventually he was forced to leave the army, both for his own and the others' safety.
  
  
• This news wasn't appreciated by his father who had called him all sorts of names and insults. His father's side of the family had been guards and soldiers for ages. they had fought more battles and witnessed more deaths than Lucian could ever imagine. His dissappoinment didn't fade with several months passing. If anything, it only grew to be worse. This eventually fueled his decision to leave the continent and his weaknesses behind him. In the neighboring continent he would be able to start over. Only to come back with the qualities of a guard one day, to regain both the respect of his father and his family's honor back.
  
  
• Within this foreign continent, he eventually came in contact with the Mercier family. A family he had heard of before, whilst the trading-based relationship they had with the Efrain family. Due to his family history of royal and noble guards, he got hired as the personal guard for their daughter Cassandra Mercier. The young woman was allowed to travel and see the world before getting married, and Lucian had to make sure she eventually returned home safely and in one piece. Quite the responsibility, but one he didn't dare to decline. This is how he ended up within Odiria, where many adventures would lie ahead.
