Lauriel Sythaeryn

Details

The beautiful Lauriel is genetically very blessed. She is very tall, although this is not uncommon for elves, and has a thin frame. Her luscious blonde hair is naturally curly and falls over her shoulders. It would make one easily mistake her for a moon elf. She has bright blue eyes and heart-shaped lips.

Impressions & Attitude

Lauriel manages to draw the attention to her, no matter what room she enters, and does so with an irresistible style. She has a captivating and contagious smile. Her voice sounds crystal (haha) clear and when she sings it is easy to note her mastery of the craft. She has a unique mix of rich dark notes and a bright upper range, which is why many classify her as a light lyric soprano with the capability of an alto.

Clothing

Lauriel has a strong aesthetic sense. From grooming and outfits to a well-appointed home, she has an eye for fashion. Her garments are always well-made and visibly expensive. She often dons dresses that show some skin, depending on the environment she finds herself in. Her casual wear is a bit more flowy, embodying her free spirit. Most of her more formal wear is decorated with the tiniest crystals, which she creates herself. Her long hair is often done (half) up and she loves decorating it with gems or flowers.

Lauriel isn’t known for holding back. Wanting to experience everything there is to experience, she doesn’t mind stepping out of her comfort zone. Traditions and expectations are secondary to her, if a consideration at all. She loves to experiment and constantly finds new ways to stick out in the crowd. She adores the spotlight, and all the world’s a stage to her. If anyone is to be found spontaneously breaking into song and dance, it is Lauriel. Thankfully, she has the vocals to back up her need to be in the spotlight. Listening to her is like listening to an angel.  

Utterly social, she enjoys the simplest things; happiness and satisfaction stems from the time she spends with the people she enjoys being with. She can easily get caught up in the excitement of the moment, and wants everyone else to feel that way too. Lauriel loves to pay attention to people. She’s talkative, witty and almost never runs out of things to discuss. Though it may not always seem like it, she knows that it’s not all about her – she’s observant, and very sensitive to others’ emotions.

Lauriel usually loves (a little) drama and passion, but not so much when she is the focus of the criticisms it can bring. She is strongly emotional, and very vulnerable to said criticism. If the problem is about her, she is more likely to avoid a conflict altogether than to address it head-on. Sometimes she ignores and avoids conflict entirely. She tends to say and do what’s needed to get out of such situations, then move on to something more fun.

Without constant excitement, she finds ways to create it herself. Risky behaviour, self-indulgence, and the pleasures of the moment over long-term plans are all things she gets into a little too often. She’d rather rely on luck or opportunity, or simply ask for help from her extensive circle of friends. However, there won’t always be someone around to help.

Wood magic is related to nature. In Lauriel’s case she has the rare ability to manipulate crystalline material. She also has a knack for manipulating gemstones. Some techniques include:

• Crystal generation - She can create crystals from nothing or the surrounding environment and use them for a variety of purposes. The user can create, change and manipulate the properties of matter, including density, colour, shape, hardness, etc.
  
• Crystal constructs - She can turn crystals into different forms and objects of varying detail. These constructs can range from simple shapes and to functional items such as tools and weapons.
  
• Gemstone manipulation - She can create, shape and manipulate gems, also called precious or semi-precious stones, fine gems, or jewels: natural or artificially produced minerals that have sufficient beauty and durability for use as a personal adornment.
  

There are multiple ways of expressing her magic and Lauriel has only touched the surface. She is on a proficient level, but still has a long way to go to become a master. There are also several techniques that she doesn’t know about or hasn’t yet dabbled in.

• Crystal healing - She can use magic with/through crystals/gems, using them for magical purposes like healing wounds. (just started training)
  
• Other crystal magic: - She can use magic with/through crystals/gems, using them for various magical purposes like creating a contract, impose/break seals, etc. (not yet trained)
  

Like every magic user, Lauriel’s magic has its limitations. Like most magic, hers is closest to its source. When travelling outside of Avalon, she may find it harder to create crystals from scratch. Creating crystals is a delicate process and making a mistake is easy. This could result in an easy destruction of the crystals/gems Lauriel creates, if she doesn’t pay attention to what she’s doing. Because her magic is so focused on Crystallokinesis, Laurel is not able to shape and manipulate plants and vines. At best she can make some flowers appear.

Early years

Lauriel Florentina Sythaeryn was born as the eldest daughter of Elorshin and Shenara Sythaeryn. The Sythaeryn family has a noble lineage made up of both moon and wood elves. Lauriel inherited her father's wood elf genes. Two years later, her sister Calypso was born. Her sister inherited her mother's moon elf genes. The sisters, despite their differences, always enjoyed a close bond. The youngest child, a boy named Florentin, was born when Lauriel was five. He was a wood elf like her.

Childhood

She grew up together with her siblings in the family mansion. It is situated in Avalon, yet very close to the border of Lemuria. Because of this, alongside her mother's moon elf heritage, the family often made trips to the other nation. This caused Lauriel to be decently acquainted with the Lemurian cultura and customs from at a young age.  Lauriel has enjoyed the spoils of her family's wealth ever since she was a child. Pretty dresses, private tutoring and presents whenever her father returned from business trips. It's safe to say she was a pretty spoiled child.

Unlike her father, Lauriel never had a particular talent for manipulating vines, plants and flowers. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn't get any better than the basic level. This put quite the strain on her relationship with her parents, since she was the eldest child and thus the heir.  At age twelve, however, Lauriel discovered her ability to create and manipulate crystals. Her parents were quick to hire the best magic tutor they could find. Together with her tutor she was able to study some ancient scriptures that her father had found. Because Lauriel's magical ability was so rare however, in combination with the destruction of the Kingdom of Avalon centuries earlier, it was hard to pinpoint exactly how her magic worked.

Teenage years

Lauriel never really had any ambition to stay in Avalon. Instead she wanted to see the world. At age sixteen, she was frequently travelling to Lemuria to discover the country. She studied philosophy and composition in the capital Moonbright and often passed through Silvercrest on her travels back home. In Avalon, she ventured often to Wealdstone, as it was considered the safest place for wood elves like herself. The one promise she always had to make was that she'd return to her family.

Adulthood

When Lauriel was at the age of twenty, she had finished most of her basic studies in philosophy and compositon. She then decided she wanted to travel around more, to spread music and see the world. Her trips were at most a month or two before she returned home, but she so greatly enjoyed it. Thankfully for her parents' wealth, in combination with her ever growing ability to create gemstones, she never really had to worry about her financial situation. This meant staying at the very best inns and enjoying life to the fullest. On her travels, she became quite interested in a string of men. She'd write songs about them and if they were lucky, the songs were positive. (Rip Jakyus Gyllenhalius & Jonathan Mayerys).

Bimbo is back home and thriving.
