Elias Carnegie

Details

Elias still has that boyish charm clinging to his youthful face. But with a strong jaw, strong brow and deep-set eyes, he still has the making of a man in him. Elias sports a rather large nose (do not mention it) and has full lips. He is not the classical, conventional handsome man like his brother and sister, who take more after their mother. He is more rough around the edges like their father. He has soft grey eyes, which seem almost a bit out of place. He has fairly curly hair, but he usually styles is so it is more reserved. On the left side of his face, he has birth marks.

Demeanor

Elias is a rich boy and he flaunts it. His whole body language screams arrogance. He carries his head high, with pride and valour. He moves with that high born swagger. He uses a lot of hand gestures when he expresses himself and rarely really stands still, switching his weight over his feet.

Clothing

Again, screaming money. He probably should not spend so much on his clothing, acting like he is some aristocrat. He likes to wear nice tailored suits with a pop of colour or patterns. He accessories his outfit with ties or small silk scarfs. He also usually wears a variation of rings of some sort.  

Elias is the textbook example of a pampered boy who’s success and riches has risen to his head. Even though most of the successes of his family name, were on those who went before him. He never had to struggle or work hard for everything in his life, as everything had been handed to him. But for someone like Elias, it can never be enough. He is always looking for more, his ambitions never-ending. He wants to make history like his ancestors before him. He wants to extend that empire. And he will step on those who are in the way of that greatness.

Elias is impulsive, hot-headed and self-indulgent. He lives like life is sped-up, never taking much time to stand still or appreciate the simple things in life. He is always on the go, trying to climb higher and higher. He is loud and has little sense of shame. He will do everything to mingle with the even richer and greater. He is very confident and had the tendency to domineer conversations. But, often easily forgiven, because with charming smiles and being a bit of a suck-up from time to time, he can get away with almost everything. But to everybody that has a lower standing to him, or his employees, Elias cannot be described as anything else but “a huge dick”.

This arrogance and narcissism is created from this desperation to prove himself to his family. Because his family is a patched up vase, still seeing all the cracks his older siblings have left. He feels like he has a huge responsibility to prove himself, and maybe his whole assholery is a big charade to hide the fear of failure. Elias is a mold of high expectations, meeting those and then raising the stakes even higher. He is quick to anger, his greatest defense mechanism. He is not afraid to use some physical violence.

What also goes hand-in-hand with his never standing still, he is quite a perfectionist. He can drown himself in his work. When he is finally focused on a new project, he can hole himself up for hours, sometimes even days, when new ideas roam his mind. Elias is pretty smart, but only on a technical note. His eye on details is impeccable. That is where his strength truly lies, but he is often distracted by other matters. But if he is truly busy drawing and creating, he can have this much more softer and gentler side, which is just a boy that can be truly passionate for what he is doing.

Parents

Siblings

The Carnegie’s are a renowned family in Ashmoor, known for their engineering skills. They are quite a wealthy family residing in the upper ring of Alderrath. The Carnegie’s were one of families that worked on the building of the train that runs through Alderrath. They are a well-known engineering family that was contacted back in the day to help out with the build of it. They are a wealthy family that has benefited greatly over the span of the years.

The Carnegie’s made their wealth building trains and railroads. Elias picked up the profession from a young age, having quite the affinity with technical assignments and mathematics. Since he finished his studies, he focused his attention on the innovation and design of new engines. His big dream is to create train engines strong enough to create the first railroad between Alderrath and Dawnmire. He is also dabbling with the idea of creating engines for the navy.

Childhood

Elias Nathaniel Carnegie is the third child and second son of Garlan and Catherine Carnegie. Where his older siblings, Rosslyn and Augustus, were very close in age, he was a bit of a late-comer. He would always be their little brother. It was a household filled with expectations and responsibilities. From very young age, Elias had to divert his attention to studies. But to his father’s glee, he was very good with a pencil. He could soon copy his father’s engineering drawings, even though he had no idea what they meant. But he was very skilled in very precise drawing and attention to detail from a very young age. He also quickly learned that was in stark contrast with his older brother.
But his older brother was still this this hero in young Elias’ eyes. He would often sneak out with him, or the three of them together. When he was younger in front of his saddle, but when he had grown a bit, he was allowed to have his own pony. Those were very much the happy days. They would get in trouble, but never enough to not do it again.

Early teens

But when Augustus picked his studies, even more eyes fell on him to follow in his father’s footsteps. Elias was too scared to face the same disappointment that Augustus had to endure, he never even considered doing somethings else. No, more rather, he saw an opportunity. Where his older brother dropped out, he could step up. Maybe then someday the line of heritage could shift to him, the second son. In his young teens, Elias was focused on the beginnings of mathematics, engineering, studying simple machinery and just basically readying himself to start university. Elias was a talented boy if he set his mind to it and after a while he really started to enjoy it. But when success started to come, he started to crave more and more, like some mad drug.
Also, during this time, his sister started to court with young Frederick Eckhart. His parents were delighted to someday have a baroness in their family. This, sadly ended badly, causing even more cracks in their family. Then Augustus left for university and their home has lost almost all it’s warmth. Elias was still young, so he only wanted to please his parents where his siblings had been disappointing. He tried to be there for Rosslyn from time to time, offering her to go out riding or play games. He saw the man had hurt her gravely and started to grow a big resentment for the man.

Late teens

Elias was already completely integrated in the family business. For the first time being, he was with the smiths and engineers, putting engines and machines together. He worked on trains, steam powered ploughs, mill engines, water wheels, you name it. He had a very hands-on experience, often returning home completely covered in grease and coal dust. It was a happy time, because Elias could really grow. But soon his father did not want his only promising son to be some lowlife smith, no, he wanted for Elias to create. So Elias was challenged to design and create by himself, pushing the limits of what was possible. He worked for months on the problem to make engines more efficient, to make them more powerful. At one point he pitched the idea to reuse hot steam. With brighter minds, the first prototypes of compound engines started to emerge. But they were very unreliable.

Early adulthood

 Augustus refused to return home, at great disappointment of their parents. He wanted to be a steward at the Villiers, at much contempt of his parents. It was a waste of his talents, they told him, to lower himself to some glorified servant. And then Rosslynn made the decision to become a philanthropist and  start a orphanage. Now it was just Elias back at the Carnegie household. That was when the expectations on the youngest son started to explode. Elias did not follow in his brother’s footsteps and go to university, like he wanted to. He was allowed to follow some useful classes, but he had to stay close to the business at all times. Because what they were about to create could not be learned, as it was not invented yet. He would have to do it himself. This started to inflate his already huge ego even more.
Elias felt better than his older siblings. He started to hunt for greatness, and be more than just an engineer. He wanted to be the greatest one the city had to offer. He wanted to achieve legendary things. His compound engine starts to come along nicely and he is already working on future improvements. He is imagining a train so strong, it could carry dozens of wagons. Elias is still very young and hungry, but his early successes and favour in the family, make him think he can achieve anything.
For the time being he is also being sucked up by the hustle and bustle of high society. He wants to keep his family business on the map after what happened to Ross & Gus. Elias is more often now out hunting, fencing or drinking with "the lads" then working on his machines. He loves the riches of high society. He loves being noticed and seen. He is chasing after girls.
