Augustus Carnegie

Augustus is the epitome of classical male beauty with his blue eyes, light hair and chiseled jaw. He absolutely knows he's a sight to behold and is known for his often too-intense gazes, rhetorical questions and tilts of his head paired with a certain-toned 'hm' that can mean both everything or absolutely nothing at all. He carries himself with a certain sense of pride and grandeur and wears his - terribly expensive - tailored suits as his own personal armour.

Augustus is a man who's skilled at playing a two sided game. He's loving and caring to his siblings and family and anyone he deems good enough to be a part of his inner circle, he'll do his utmost for his employers (the Villiers' family, who he's grown fond of ever since they appointed him as their house steward). But anyone who Augustus deems beneath him will see another side of the gentleman - maybe the side that's the most truthful to him. He's cold and collected to his employees, expecting them to show the same kind of determination to their jobs as he does himself. Augustus doesn't hesitate to fire anyone who performs below his high standards and there is a certain culture of fear amongst the staff members of the Davenrow Manor ever since he became the house steward. He's rigid and expects people to do exactly what he wants without having uttered it. Augustus is a huge flatterer as well - he adores people with a large enough amount of status and is often found mingling in the upper ranks of the Ashmoorian society during a party or brunch.

The birth of Augustus was considered a day of celebration in the Carnegie household. The second child and first son of Garlan and Catherine, the lineage holder who would continue the family's prosperity. As a token of appreciation towards the ruling Winter family, they named their son Augustus, after the previous Duke of Ashmoor.

The small Augustus grew up in a family that provided everything for him, with sky-high expectations to match. While his parents were often hard on him, Augustus often escaped their estate in Alderrath to go for horse-riding with his siblings or by himself, sometimes disappearing for days to read and study in the woods south of Alderrath.

As he became a teenager and was supposed to pick his further education, it was clear he didn't possess his father's technical mind and matching technical drawing skills. Something the young man already knew from the moment he laid eyes on a drawing book, but his father had been blind to. Oh no, Augustus was more interested in the managing part of businesses, philosophy and economics. When he turned eighteen, he sold the largest part of his family company's stocks to finance his own education at the university of Alderrath. While his parents were sceptical about the decision, his siblings supported him - something he still cherishes to this day.

His time as a student was characterised by neverending parties and hidden romantic flings, but he managed to uphold his high grades. Augustus graduated with flying colours, excelling in the subjects of rhetoric and law. As his parents asked him to return to the Carnegie estate, after the troubles with his sister who had caused a rife within the family, Augustus declined, already having set his mind on another adventure. Anthony Villiers, a man who Augustus had met during a faculty-organised party, had offered him a job within the Villiers' family private estate, Davenrow Manor. The family was searching for a house steward, and who could be a more perfect match than a young man from a rich family who had just graduated in law and economics? Augustus happily accepted the job, eager to be away from his ever-demanding parents. He worked his way up in the family's staff and is now the head house steward, responsible for the other staff members, finances and administration of the estate.

♘ Attracted to men (a public secret amongst those in Alderrath who know and socialise in the same circles as Augustus does), but is willing to subject himself to a 'traditional' marriage once he finds a suitable wife.
