Details

Mostly dressed within darker shades this peculiar figure hides within Ashmoor's back alleys, his outfits often topped off with a hat to cover his face within the shadows. No matter the occasion, Callum's outfits will be long sleeved, paired with some black, leather gloves to match. This way he can easily hide his prosthetic arm. While he doesn't necessarily mind it, he doesn't prefer drawing attention to the formerly amputated limb. Several scars adorn both his body and his face, an undereye scar being the most prominent.

Cunning, self-centered, manipulative, unpredictable. There aren't a lot of pretty words suited to describe Callum. Growing up a nobody, he has created a coping mechanism which genuinely makes him believe that this world revolves around him. The man thinks high of himself. He often depicts his life as a duel with Renestrae, striving to surpass her in any way possible. The people around him are nothing more than puppets, spawned into this world for him to use in any way he could.

Other people would describe him as dellusional. Still, the man is quite dangerous. Able to come across as charming and intriguing at first sight he manages to wrap a lot of people around his fingers. While he likes to think of himself as cold-hearted, emotions often seem to get the better of him, making him quite impulsive as well.

Callum was trained within the arts of blood magic, making him able to cast spells using blood. Beside the phrases within his spellbook, these spells require sigils. Callum's expertise lies within both protection and healing spells.

  • Protection spells

In order to protect himself form fatal wounds in physical fights, Callum is able to use blood to draw several kinds of sigils on his skin. Paired with the phrases within his spellbook, the protection only works around the area's of the drawn sigils, and protect him from anything trying to cut through his skin. Cuts close to the sigil will still bleed, but won't be able to cut deep enough for causing serious bloodloss. Injuries like broken bones or bruises are not affected by these spells, and can still cause him the regular amount of damage.

  • Healing spells

In a similar way of how his protection spells work, Callum can draw similar sigils on either himself or a companion to heal wounds where skin has been damaged (no broken bones, bruises, etc). These sigils allow him to close smaller cuts, or to heal bigger cuts enough for them to be less fatal. He is not able to completely close bigger cuts or stab wounds.

  • Drawbacks & Limitations

Both typed of sigils work the strongest when using his own blood. Using another human's blood works fairly well, but will be less powerful and won't last as long. Animal blood could be used as well, but weakens the spells immensely.

A sigil's power will wear off as soon as the sigil is damaged. Whether it is wiped off his skin by his clothing, washed away with water or altered in any other way. Both spells drain his energy, but only when being activated. Simply wearing sigils on his body won't tire him, but having them protect his skin against multiple cuts will drain his energy quickly. Healing cuts will drain his energy even faster. Both spells require different kinds of sigils, meaning he cannot heal his arm using the same sigil used for protection. Healing sigils must be drawn upon the spot, after which the phrase from his spellbook will initiate the healing.

Childhood


  • Callum was born from a prostitute and handed to the Ashmoor orphanage not soon after. He doesn't know the names of his birth parents.

  • Unable to find his place within the orphanage young Callum soon became the victim of bullying. This caused him to act out of place, which resulted in more bullying. A vicious cycle in which his behavior worsened the older he became.

Teenhood


  • As his behaviour worsened and the physical fights with his peers became more frequent and agressive, the orphanage staff couldn't handle the boy any longer. He was thrown out, expected to fend for himself now.

  • In search for jobs to keep himself fed, he eventually found himself within the underground of Ashmoor, serving as a pawn for an organisation mostly selling shady and illegal wares to dark mages. These wares ranged from fragments of the Odirian Kingdoms, to actual human organs or body parts to be used within their magic.

  • Most of his memories from his early days within the organisation are nothing more than a haze of repressed fragments occasionally showing up within his dreams. Over time, he became more desensitized for the gruesome sights he had to endure daily.

  • Showing potential, one of the men within the organisation began to teach the boy the arts of dark magic himself. The practice went by the name of blood magic, and was his first introduction to magic as a whole. Practicing made him grow closer to the man going by the name of Mr. Alastair. Being an orphan without a true family name, he soon adopted the Alastair name with the man's permission.

  • Unfortunately, some people are bound to stay on their own. Mr. Alastair was soon murdered by the orgnasation for comitting treason. Callum never got to know the exact reason behind the murder, but it fueled his hatred like nothing else before. They had taken his only family.

Adulthood


  • Time went by as he found himself trapped within the organisation. Fleeing was no option. Either he'd end up like the man he looked up to, or got away to live as a coward for the rest of his life. Besides, he wasn't seeking any freedom. He was seeking revenge. Planning to destroy the organisation from the inside out he became quiet and obedient, waiting for the right time to strike.

  • And that time came, eventually. At the age of 21 he had managed to work himself to the top, his need for revenge long faded as his need for power grew. For the first time in his life he could be someone. Having other people do the dirty work for him, all he had to worry about were his riches, women and the finest wine within Ashmoor.

  • His moral compass had been long lost, and so have his actual goals. Vulnerable to failure he manages to slither his way out of trouble each time. The orginasation has since been rebranded under the name of the Ghostly Blade. Members lacking his trust were either banished or executed, leaving only a handful of trustworthy companions. His greatest enemy right now would be his own greed and impulsive behaviour, ready to undo all that he managed to build up.

  • His natural hair color is a dark shade of brown. After an incident with a colleague's dark magic, his hair slowly started to turn red. He doesn't mind it.

  • Callum isn't some criminal mastermind. Both his charisma and luck have gotten him to where he is now. He is a smooth talker and sharp manipulator, but actually lacks the intelligence to think his plans through.

  • Callum has a prosthetic arm, given to him by an aquaintance of the organisation after an incident within some underground tunnels under the lower ring of Ashmoor. When they partly collapsed, his arm was crushed under some of the bricks. This happened at the age of 21, soon after the rebranding, which he only recently fully recovered from at the age of 24.

  • Back in his childhood, Callum dreamt of becoming a mechanic.
