Details

Polaris isn't very muscular. He's lanky and a bit thin, seemingly having more a feminine body build then a male one. He doesn't have broad shoulders and has a small chest. He has more hip definition then other men, but it isn't that noticeable when you aren't paying attention to him. Having rather long legs, he seems tall, but he is just a bit above average. His legs and arms have some muscle to them, but not in a way that its noticeable. He blends in easily with a crowd as he doesn't have anything that sets him apart from other people at first sight. He does have very fine, but rather large, hands. The way he carries himself is mostly laid back, usually having a chill air about him. Several big scars can be found on his upper body.

Larry has a very round face and generally has soft features. He has a bright smile and soft, big cheeks that are very visible whenever he's smiling. He has dark amber colored eyes that seem more brown than amber. In bright light it becomes clear that he has amber eyes. He doesn't have very expressive eyes and he can be hard to read sometimes. He has a toned skin tone, making it clear that he is from Lemuria. His general expression makes him seem very friendly and approachable. His hair is black and very thick. It feels silky soft to the touch and it's pleasant to work with.

Polaris mostly wears stolen clothing that he combines to try and cover himself up. He switches attire regularly and never seems to settle on one style.
Personality
Constellation The Vixen
Alignment Chaotic Neutral

Polaris is quite the mischievous spirit, always looking for the next prank to pull on the people around him. He is a very social person, getting energy from being around people. Although he uses comedy as a way of dealing with his emotions and is generally seen as a sort of clown, he doesn't seem to take things seriously. He doesn't shy away from dark humor or controversial things, although sometimes it would be better if he held his tongue. He usually thinks before he speaks, but when things get heated he can say some hurtful things, perhaps the only time he really says what’s on his mind. He shelters himself by using humor and comedy, in a way creating distance with the people around him as to not get as attached as he normally would.

He doesn't trust easily and has a hard time believing others. He certainly has trust issues and rarely opens up. The same goes for receiving compliments or positive remarks. He doesn't take positive remark towards himself very well and usually starts to joke about it. Whenever someone compliments him, he usually thinks they are joking or teasing him, especially when its something common like 'nice eyes' etc. He appreciate originality and is actually really easily swayed when things get more personal. He doesn't get flustered easily, just like how he doesn't get emotional very easily. He usually laughs off any kind of strong emotions as a way of relieving the stress that comes with it. He can remain very calm and collected due to this and always seems to keep a cool head. He is a very determined person and doesn't let go of things easily when he sets his mind to it.

It's when he's alone that he lets go of that mask. Usually crying when he is alone, he really doesn't like to spend any time away from people. He gets anxious when he is left alone for too long and will seek out social events or jobs to combat this. Adding onto that he is also a bit paranoid, always feeling like something is chasing him, especially the guards of his previous owner. Whenever this paranoia hits a peak, he loses composure, even around people, and simply panics, his fight or flight response kicking in. In situations like these he will run and try to hide himself. There's not much that can calm him down when he is truly panicked. Physical contact such as a hug and soft singing might be the only things that get through to him.

He is very soft on the inside, having a great imagination for his age. He is a bit of a hopeless romantic and believes that one day he would be able to find himself someone who truly cares about him. He really wants to believe in the best of people, but every time that is proven wrong to him. Despite that he has some faith, making him selfless in some ways he acts. He loves a good hug and generally loves physical contact such as cuddling and holding hands. Even just having someone lean against him can ease him somewhat.

Merfolk side
Polaris' merfolk form is based on a betta fish. Having a long, elegant tail. He has several huge fins that come in a wide variety of purples and blues. The tail itself has a deep dark blue color, having a soft shimmer to his scales. He has a length of 3m40 including tailfin (1m80 excluding), which is about the same size as his entire body. Having such large fins comes with a lot of complications. His fins are fragile and tear easily. The scales from his tail lead up higher on his back, reaching almost till his shoulder blades, where the scales curl up in a winglike pattern. He has a huge dorsal fin that isn't directly connected to his tailfin, but does reach until a bit under half of his tail. A combination of purple and blue scales are scattered on his lower arms, forming a large cluster of them at one side. Another fin can be found there, having a deep purple color which seems to be a bit lighter then his other fins. Some lighter colored scales are scattered on his cheeks and lead up to his neck, where his gills can be found. Over all his fins some milky white dots can be found, some larger then others. In combinations with his darker colorations in his tailfin it could be compared to a clear sky at twilight. He doesn't have sharp teeth, retaining most human features in his face. His hands have slight webbing, it's barely noticeable. When in this form his eyes seem to become a bit brighter in coloration.

Polaris is very weak in his merfolk form and seemingly has no way of defending himself. The one and only thing he can do is flash his colors and large fins, which would confuse a predator in the water due to not being able to pinpoint his body with it. It's his one and only defense mechanism and doesn't work well with more intelligent creatures such as humans. Although beautiful to see in the water and use as display animal, there isn't much other use his merfolk form has. On dry land he can't do much, not even move on his own, as it could tear his fins. Despite his large appearance, he's actually really light as most of his 'bulk' comes from the large fins.
History
This story begins under the surface of the ocean. On a pleasant day in Bloomtide were two boys born. Although identical looking at first sight, they had slight differences here and there, which made it clear that they weren't identical twins. But this didn't bother anyone, as they were simply healthy boys. One received the name of the NorthStar; Polaris, while the other received the opposite of this star; Sigma Octantis, or Sigma to keep it simply. Their life in the underwater city didn't last long, however, as their parents moved swiftly after giving birth to them.

The two scholars moved to Al-Qahil with their newborn sons. The Estrella's were well respected and powerfull mages and scholars. Having not a lot of power to their name, but a lot of respect. They were able to crack open spells and problems with much ease. And the two had great plans for their sons as well. But those were things for the future, as they were still babies. But babies become toddlers and toddlers become children. And even though they had a simple upbringing, it didn't take long for them to enrol in different classes. Polaris was mostly set aside with his father, who taught him how to read and write. He picked up on it quite easily and at the young age of 4 he was already able to write his own name. This made his father very proud of him, telling his boy that he was truly special. Those words really stuck with him and the little boy tried his best with every new day that came.

There were certainly hiccups. They were still children with temperament. Especially Polaris started to show some mischief when he turned 6. Pulling small pranks on his parents and his brother, but also his teacher. At first it was seen as some harmless fun and the people around him could laugh about it. But that didn't last long. Even though Polaris was very bright, keeping up quite well academically and even being in front of the curve, he was lacking on another matter. Magic. His parents had decided to teach their kids small things when they were still young. Showing of their own magic to show them how it was done. The small boy was fascinated by it and wanted to give it his all. After all, he wanted to become a fire mage like he had read in books. But it didn't matter how hard he tried, nothing came. Perhaps he was still too young and they were pushing him too much. Yes, it must be that.

But he didn't give up. Day in and out he tried to cast magic. Every new day he tried something else. Maybe he should put more belief in Xeion? He started visiting the temple more, even made his own spell book that got blessed quite quickly. But nothing happened. The spell book didn't work and he couldn't use any magic. As each new day began with more disappointment, he started to look for something else in life. That's how he got into music. He picked up the guitar, taught himself how to read music sheets and started listening to bards who were playing on the streets of Al-Qahil. As he listened on to their singing he wrote down little things he noticed. And then, back home, he would try those things on. Slowly learning himself how to sing and play the guitar. And boy, he was good at it.

Sigma started to show progress when it came to magic, but he still didn't. He still hadn't showed anything regarding it. And it started to frustrate his parents a lot, but perhaps it frustrated Polaris even more. And even though he was angry and pissed off at the world that he simply couldn't do something, he never let that show to his brother. He showed him endless support and stayed positive. Always cheering him on and looking on in aw. Although, he would lie if he didn't say that he wasn't a bit jealous. After all, SIgma was living the life he desperately had wanted since day 1. But he wouldn't stand in the way of his brother, nor would he show him that he was jealous. Perhaps these were the first steps of him starting to use comedy as a way of masking his own feelings. BUt still, it did something with him. He became this kind of clown who didn't seem to take things seriously anymore. Slowly he didn't seem to care anymore, but deep down he still did. And that was exactly his problem.

Because it didn't matter how hard he tried, how much he did. There was simply nothing. It was almost as if he wasn't even a mage. And well yea, he wasn't. For all he knew he was a human in a mage family. But was that even possible? Was it possible for a human to not be able to channel magic? He was such a great pupil, showing so much progress in so many things and having fantastic grades. He truly outshone even the best of his class if anything. But that all didn't matter, because he didn't seem to possess magic. He could cry and scream all he wanted, but it wouldn't come. And one day, his parents had enough. They scolded him, telling him that he wasn't trying hard enough. And that one sentiment truly broke him. He, who had tried oh so hard to get something from such a young age, throwing away his own childhood for them, wasn't trying hard enough. He should have screamed back at them, but he didn't. He simply chuckled and agreed, before leaving their house.

And that's how, perhaps, the last of his care started to fade. The boy started to go out and preform on the streets of Al-Qahil. Rarely spending time at home, he would often tell his parents he would be off to the library to study. But he really didn't. He was just preforming with other street performers, enjoying himself with little care in the world. And that's where he started to shine. People from all over told him he had a beautiful voice and a true talent for music. He loved the attention that came with preforming and one night a man invited him to preform at his tavern. Polaris agreed and soon after he had his first performance. Those were quickly followed by a second one, a third on... And many more to come. And somehow he kept it all a secret from his parents. He was truly in his element. Very young for what he was doing, but he was good at it. And everyday he would leave the house with a smile. Get his guitar from a hidden place and go out to play. Those were truly the best times of his life.

One evening he preformed at a bigger tavern. And he wasn't quite in luck, because his parents were present at the performance. They interrupted his singing and dragged him back him. Confronting him about the fact that his grades had been dropping and he never was trying anymore for his magic. This broke up in a huge fight, ending with his father taking away and breaking his guitar as Polaris looked on. He could still remember the sight of his beloved instrument shattering against the stone wall. And it broke him. It really did. He screamed at them, had never been so angry before, and let out all he thought. But his parents didn't care and dismissed it, giving him house arrest and a strict routine as punishment.

But he no longer seemed to care. His academic performances plummeted even more as he started to fall behind. He challenged his parents with every new day as he simply didn't even read what was displayed to him. He acted quite sassy when he did, rebelling against everything they tried with him. He simply wouldn't speak, wouldn't even look at them. He wouldn't reply to their shouts, to their anger. He didn't care. Until one day he grabbed his spell book and tried once more, but failed. A smile came on his face as he did, looking at his parents and stating that he was leaving for Lemuria to become a bard. And this only at the age of 14. This escalated into a huge fight once more. But it didn't matter. He left home and Al-Qahil with the money he had earned from back in the day. Leaving behind his family. But he kept his hopes high as he would one day return to see his brother again. He was sure of that. But first, he had to become successful.

The first thing he did when he arrived in Moonbright, was purchase himself a new guitar. And with that all the rest came with ease. He got his first performance in a tavern, which was successful. And just like in Al-Qahil he got another job. And from there on he went from performance to performance. Getting tips here and there, he managed to get around. Writing his own songs but also performing very popular ones. He didn't have a wealthy life, but he wasn't poor either. He could buy himself enough food to get around and could even get some nice clothes from time to time. But that all seemed to change when he got the deal of a life time. One of the most wealthiest men in Moonbright approached him, talking about a party he wanted to host with some important people. Polaris was stoked when he heard and agreed to the deal right away. As he performed that evening, he was the last bard of the night. And even though he wasn't the main event, he still felt so proud that he was able to make it to something of importance. He was beaming the entire time, truly feeling special in that one moment. He was gonna make it, he was sure of it.

After the party, the man thanked him personally, even offering him a drink. As the last of the guests left, it was just him and the old man. And well, Polaris simply didn't see anything wrong with it. He agreed to the drink and well, the man simply gave him some alcohol. Maybe he had bad intentions, maybe he didn't. But if Polaris was honest, all that he could remember was that he got a bit tipsy. And with tipsy come clumsy hands. And clumsy hands... Spilled drinks. It was bound to happen. And it was so unfortunate. But as the beverage spilled over his arm he underwent his first transformation into his merfolk form. He couldn't remember what happened as he fell when it happened, hitting his head and being knocked out.

When he awoke he was in water. Panicking at first he observed his body, which only made him panic more. As he screamed out for help, panicking even more, it didn't take long for him to realise that he was in some sort of pond. Something equivalent to a display area for koi fish and other aquatic animal, but then even larger. He panicked when he realised this, trying to get out of the water right away. But he couldn't as the rocks were simply to highly build up. He was caught in this pond for some reason. But he could see that it was an indoor area. So even if he got out of the water, he still wouldn't be able to get out.

He calmed himself down a little bit, observing his new body as he did. He surely wasn't big at first sight, but the fins he had were. It kinda scared him at first, since they didn't look normal. But they were stunning in color. Bright coloration he had never seen in nature before. Perhaps in some books painting tropical fish, but that was about it. As he started to make sense of his new body, it didn't take long for him to hear voices. He got a peak, even put his head out of the water and ask for help. But as he did, all he got was punishment. He got scared and fled back under the surface.

As days turned into weeks it became clear to him that he was being kept as a pet. And from what he heard it was for his exotic looks and his gorgeous tail, which looked almost identical to the sky at dusk. Polaris didn't quite know what he had to do in this situation. He knew a bit of merfolk, but not enough. He didn't know why he was one and why it had happened so suddenly. But he quickly pushed aside his confusion. As he started to become more bold. He tried to escape, once, got punished heavily as he did. Being dragged out of the water and getting treated horrible by blunt objects. These details he kept vague in his mind. But he could remember bleeding every time. And after he bled, he would get healed and get thrown back in the pond. After a few times, he abended the idea of escaping. Slowly accepting his fate as a display animal.

And when he did, his master started to ask more of him. He was pulled out of the water often and forced to sing songs for him. Almost like a slave in a way. If he didn't comply, he would get harshly punished. Slowly bending him under utmost control of him. And it worked. Because one day he simply sang at the simplest of commands. Becoming a puppet to the man he had once oh so admired. He didn't understand why he was being treated so horribly. Why he was being held as some sort of trophy. But in some ways he should have been grateful for the rich mans... 'kindness'... He knew merfolk scales went for a lot. Killing him would surely benefit him. But he didn't. He was simply being held as entertainment. A pretty fish in his pond. A beautiful voice to fill the room with. And that's how his days went. Day in and out, a slave to one mans command. Oh... What had become of him.

He started to become lonely whenever the man wasn't around. Singing to himself from inside the pond to keep himself entertained. There was little he could do, as he couldn't get out of the water on his own. It was so that... A young guard approached him on day. As the man asked him if he knew a song native to Xaila. When Polaris heard this, his eyes lid up. He asked why the man asked and to his surprise the guard actually told him that his mother used to sing him Xailan lullabies when he was younger. But she had died when he was only 10 years old. Before the young man finished his story, Polaris started to sing the old lullabies for him. Mesmerized by the singing, the guard returned every day at night. The two slowly started to bond, eventually even falling in love. As they told each other about several stories... about each other. It was his light in a very dark tunnel. He loved their nightly meetings. He loved him.

And that's why they tried to run away together. Everyone went smoothly. And for the first time in years he was back to being human. They almost got out. But not used to running anymore, Polaris fell, most likely breaking his arm as he did. He couldn't help but scream, alarming other guards. He was pulled away from him as he was thrown back in his pond, crying out. Freedom oh so close, but taken away by a simply gesture. And from that day on he never saw that guard again, his love. He knew his faith would be less then ideal. And Polaris... Feared for the worst.

His life went on as a pet. Being a crown jewel for the man. A little bird in a cage, singing his lullabies. He felt miserable and oh so empty. Day in and out. Things started to bleed into each other and he started to loose track of time, of his own life. That was, until one day, a spot at his pond was left wide open. Someone had been clumsy, not placing back the stones and using magic to secure it. As he saw his opportunity, he took it. He turned back into a human and sneaked out. Remaining calm now, he got out... And there he was. Out on the streets, naked. What now?

The first thing he did was cut off his hair with some broken glass. Following this he stole some clothes that he found in a barn. And before he could actually make a plan, he left the city of Moonbright. He headed for SIlvercrest, where he started to steal more stuff to get around. He was afraid to actually try and make coin, as he felt like he was being chased by guards. And well, he wasn't wrong. Only a couple of days after he got in Silvercrest, he spotted some guards he recognized. He left the city, even managing to steal a horse in the outskirts and escaping them, eventually even fleeing Lemuria as a whole. He wasn't safe in the nation anymore, they were everywhere. He had to get somewhere safe. As far away as possible. As far away from him as he could.

Travelling through Avalon he went for Ravaryn right away. His travels were swift and before he knew it he had the city of Ishgard in sight. Arriving, he started to look around for a job right away while keeping a low profile. His one goal being that he wanted to make himself human, as he could only see his merfolk side as a burden.
Trivia
- Polaris always wanted to wield magic, therefore he has been looking for ways to change his entire self en potentially become human. The fact he would be safe from hunters in the future is a huge added bonus for him.
- Polaris merfolk form is based on a betta fish and can therefore not survive in cold water. He is generally very sensitive to temperatures, but this gets worse in his merfolk form.
- Adding onto that, he kinda hates it in Ravaryn as he's constantly cold even when its a bit on the milder side.
- Loves cuddles, hot beverages and lots of blankets.
- Has a keen eye for astronomy and knows how to read the sky perfectly to find his way.
- Can play the guitar.
- Has a beautiful voice and used to love to preform his singing in front of people. When he was caught he was forced to sing a lot, which has made him a bit timid about displaying his songs to others.
- His eyesight has gotten worse as of recent years and he definitely would need some glasses by now, but doesn't have any. (nearsighted)
- Has a stolen paint horse that he doesn't know the name off. He calls her Miss Spots cause he thinks its cute.
- Their true father must have been a merfolk, but the boys are not aware of this. Their mother had a one night stand and even she thinks her boys are from her husband. The fact Polaris is merfolk proves otherwise.
