Harvey Layton

Details

Harvey is overall a good looking man, with his tall figure, handsome face, and light brown, almost blonde hair. The first thing people usually notice, however, are his piercing blue eyes, looking straight into their soul. Without malice or judgement. More often than not, his expression is open-minded, curious, and warm.

He carries himself properly with a straight back, but can often be a bit clumsy as well. Similar to how he dresses. It's usually proper and exactly what is expected of someone with his status, but it's clear that he doesn't really know how to dress nicely and sometimes makes some questionable choices in attire. (He's in dire need of a woman's touch). His hair is usually short and accompanied by a rough but trimmed beard. Without a beard, he has quite a baby face.

Harvey is a true gentleman. He is incredibly brave, intelligent, and kind. He is always calm and polite to everyone he meets. While he is friendly, he is on the quiet side and is usually reserved in his emotions. Though he is still capable of a joke or a laugh once in a while. He has strong logical skills and a practical mind that enable him to stay calm, even in the worst situations. From a young age, he had quite a hunger for adventure, was curious about what the world had to offer, and often went looking for those adventures. Though not always without trouble. He has clumsy moments when internally distracted by thoughts and contemplations. He broke his big toe probably more times than he would like to admit. 

Harvey is quite ambitious too. He aims for the best and highest positions (and people), which does clash with his polite and kind manners and his friendly nature. People more often than not use it to their own advantage, which in turn pushes him behind for their sake. Something he usually realizes too late. But since he isn't very confrontational and quite passive, he'd rather let it slide and move on to something better than fight and struggle.

Even though he doesn't show it often, Harvey does have a soft side. A gentle heart and deep feelings. He cares deeply for his loved ones and close kin, which makes him quite family oriented. As a younger man, his hunger for adventure was more demanding, but now that he is getting older, he is really ready to settle down and start his own family.

Childhood

Harvey was born in the upper ring, as the last child and only son of the Layton family, which was quite a surprise too. Both his parents didn't expect to have any other children after they had their only daughter, Josephine, among multiple stillbirths. So when Wilhelmina finally carried a healthy baby boy to term, it was quite a blessing.
His childhood was a fine one, which included a proper education and a relatively carefree life. He did have a knack for adventure, and together with his friends, they got into trouble plenty of times. Never too extreme, but enough to make his young life fun and interesting.

Teenage years

Early into his teenage years, Harvey was met with tragedy for the first time. The death of his best friend. It wasn't just some illness that took the boy. No, it was a terrible and horrific accident. Not only witnessed by Harvey but accidentally caused by him as well. He still carries that guilt, nearly 20 years later. If it wasn't for the care and tactful treatment of his older sister, he would've stayed stuck in a very dark place for a very long time. Making him realize how important his sister and, especially, family were to him.

Adulthood

He had a good education from a young age all the way up to adulthood, and with it he was able to get a well-regarded position within the trading business of his brother-in-law. Since the young man wasn't ready to settle down just yet, he threw himself into his job. Often traveling overseas. On one such voyage, the ship was caught up in a violent storm. Eventually it sank with all its passengers and the goods it was carrying. Only Harvey and one other sailor had managed to cling onto a piece of wood. For days they drifted over de open ocean awaiting death. By some kind of miracle (and because I want it!) they passed by a foreign trading ship who picked them up. They came too late for the sailor, but Harvey survived.
Nobody knew what had happened to the ship. After years of no news, the ship was pronounced lost, and its passengers, including Harvey, were all presumed dead. Lost to the sea. The news struck his surviving family and friends deeply as they laid Harvey George Layton to rest in an empty coffin.

Now

After almost 5 years Harvey finally found his way back home. Completely unaware of the fact that he is assumed to be dead, and more importantly, the tragic murder of his beloved sister Josephine, his dear brother-in-law Carlisle and cousin Alice.
