Mortem looks like a real gentleman, his favorite attire is a three piece suit. He wears a thick cloak when he needs to get outside, which is not that often. In his younger years he had the hair like a crow, with just a few silver streaks in it. Now he's getting older, his hair is turning more salt and pepper, with more silver streaks and less black. Mortem is taller than others of his family, possibly due to his mothers side of the family. It never really bothered him in any way.

Mortems attire and his personality seem to clash most of the time. Where he looks like a sophisticated gentlemen, he's a bigger asshole than you can imagine. He's very charming and can easily persuade you into doing whatever he wants, but he's as cunning as a snake, slithering between everything and getting whatever makes him come out on top. Mortem is a very proud man and you can see this in his doings and goings. When you get close to Mortem, and he chooses to let you see him, he's a very sadistic man. One who's not afraid of getting dirty. He's a skilled fighter with just a dagger and some martial arts and is not afraid of getting blood on his hands. He's, however, very protective of his hands. Without his hands, he's basically useless, as he needs them for his work as chef. Mortem can also be very manipulative and works his way into your head, making you do things when he wants it to. Most people don't even notice that he's slowly changing and molding others into people he finds interesting.

Mortem is a rather skilled seer. He can at random moments see flashes of the future or the past in flat surfaces, like puddles of liquid, mirrors, windows etc. He also uses a skull hookah, a skull with runes and spell on it, to blow out smoke and show others his visions. He gets these visions at random intervals and has no real control over them. Mortem also has a gift for scrying, although it's not his expertise. He can use his skull hookah to concentrate on certain people to see where they are, they will be shown within the smoke. There are some complications about this. If Mortem knows the person by name and face, the image will be clearest, if it's only a name it's more difficult for Mortem to find the person. If you have anything personal of the person, like a nail or a piece of hair, Mortem can pinpoint the location almost perfectly by burning it in his skull hookah. Scrying takes a lot out of him and Mortem will not use it very often and if people want him to find someone, they have to pay a hefty price. Mortem will often experience headaches when scrying for a long time.

Mortem is the only son born from Fredericus Rizal and Sabina Crawley. His father did not inherite the families magic and had high hopes for his only son. His mother was wed into the family, but Fredericus wanted to keep the family name exclusive for those born within or with the familys magic. That's why Mortem got the Rizal surname, while his mother still had her maiden name: Crawley. Fredericus was proud of Mortem when he showed his first signs of divination and started with a strict and harsh upcoming. Mortem did not like this, he wanted to do things his own way. He never liked the drama that surrounded the Rizal family, he just wanted to become a cook and hunt his own game. His father did not agree with this and tried to keep the young man on a short leash.

For a few years this worked, somewhat. He did what his father wanted of him, so he could go hunting later on and work on his magic. His relationship with his parents was still shaky, they tolerated each other, but that was it. This did not change when Sabina broke the news that she was pregnant again. This was the sign for Mortem that it was time to leave. He packed the things he needed, including his favorite knives and his skull hookah and he left his family house. He started working as a chef for a few years as well as doing divinations for the right buyer, until he got a prediction about twins being born into the family. He wrote a letter to his cousin Camilla and decided to keep in touch with that side of the family.
When Mort could finally afford a place for himself, he started working on making it his own. He hunted for a few days, made delicious food out of the game and invited high end people to his house. These so called dinner parties soon grew to a big thing and Mort decided to make this his thing. Via via he also heard about his younger brother and he wondered if he got the same strict and harsh upbringing as his dad tried with him.

Right now, Mortem is living his best life, hosting dinner parties a few times a year and cooking whatever he wants. He stopped doing divinations for others, unless they agree to pay a hefty price for them. He still keeps in touch with his family, but does not want to be involved with all the drama.
